Beyond the Road

SCRIPTURE TEXT: Luke 2:8-20

As we arrive at Christmas Eve Day in our Advent anticipation of the arrival of the Lord, we reflect on one of the most memorable moments of the original Christmas story: the revelation of the angels to shepherds in the field that Christ the Savior was born. By this point, Mary & Joseph’s journey to Bethlehem was already completed, and the road of prophetic Scriptures that foretold through the millennia the coming of a Christ had now also been fulfilled. But the call of the angels to the shepherds comes as The Call of Christmas to the faithful even to this day: to spread the Good News of the Savior’s arrival & of God’s great gift to all humankind. To perceive the real revelation of Christmas is to persevere Beyond the Road of challenges always facing us & enter into an evangelical enthusiasm that can fill all our days with the truest joy of Christmas Day: the real & abiding Presence of God in our midst, full of grace & truth (John 1:14).
