SCRIPTURE TEXT: 2 Samuel 23:1-39; 1 Kings 1:1-53; 2:1-46; 1 Chronicles 29:23-30

As is “the way of all the earth” (1 Kings, 2:2), so also an end came to The Days of David, at least here on earth. As the aged king prepared to rest in eternal peace, he made provisions for the posterity that God had prophetically declared. Namely, he prepared his son Solomon to ascend to the throne. But in the passages examined together in this message, chronicling David’s final words & actions, we also benefit from David’s sagacity after a long life of much faithfulness, notable failings, & abiding trust in God. We see in David’s model the message to yield to the Holy Spirit & walk in obedience to God’s ways in order to arrive, at the end of our own days, prepared to go to the Lord with confidence like David’s when he said “Surely...I will dwell in the House of the Lord forever” (Psalm 23:6).
