Visions of the MINOR PROPHETS

SCRIPTURE TEXTS: Hosea 12:10; Obadiah 1:1; Micah 1:1; Nahum 1:1; Habakkuk 2:3-4

In ancient times, the works & words associated with twelve particular prophets were each succinct enough to be combined on a single scroll that was known as The Scroll of the Twelve. Yet this editorial combination was certainly more than just a practical consideration of technical efficiency. The selection of twelve such prophets likely reflected a structural effort to align the impact of these works with the fundamental history of Israel as a nation of twelve tribes born of the twelve sons of Jacob. This also enhances our present appreciation for the thematic convergences & prophetic synchronicity of these twelve “minor prophets,” a title which reflects the brevity of their respective books compared to the lengthy volumes of the “major prophets” Isaiah, Jeremiah, & Ezekiel. And yet these Minor Prophets make a major impact on our understanding of all that God says, shows, & does to & through His covenant people as we attend to the revelation we can receive through these beautiful biblical books.
