Contrasting Kings

Often in our study of the CHRONICLES OF THE KINGS, we'll have opportunity to compare Contrasting Kings as we cull valuable "Lessons from Ancient Leaders" of the Northern & Southern Kingdoms into which Israel divided in the early centuries of the first millennium B.C. Such is the case with our examination in this message that contrasts the righteous rule of King Jehoshaphat of Judah in the first half of the ninth century B.C. with the wicked rule of King Ahab ruling from Samaria over Northern Israel in the same period alongside Ahab's equally evil & idolatrous wife, Queen Jezebel. Those rulers also form the backdrop for the lives of the powerful prophets Elijah & Elisha, whom we shall study further in coming weeks as our sermon series progresses. Contrasting these kings and their kingdoms also enlightens us as to the essential struggle unto ultimate victory by which Jesus and His flock overcome against "this present darkness" (Ephesians 6:12) presided over by the wicked ruler of this age (John 12:31; 2 Corinthians 4:4) whose time is short (Revelation 12:12) as the Day of the Lord approaches (Malachi 4:1) like a brilliant dawning of a new day (Revelation 22:16).
